So, yesterday, I realized that it was Thanksgiving today, so now I can wish everyone a good day, and a good dinner, and a good holiday.
We don't really have Thanksgiving or anything like it here, although we did have Halloween, so you never know. (Here, Halloween is called Toutsaint, All Saint's Day, but people still dress up, and there are huge fake cobwebs over the entrances to bars, so in all practicality, it's Halloween.) But, no Thanksgiving. Ah well. I was describing Thanksgiving to someone yesterday, and I started remembering how everything smelled, especially the cranberry sauce, for some reason.
What we do have, however, is a bunch of Fall things. The trees are turning pretty colors. There's a golden weeping willow in the park. The leaves are thinning everywhere, and you can tell all the leaves apart on the trees.
And also in that park, there's this . . . display, I guess, with this huge straw nest, more than a yard across, and in the nest are pumpkins of all sorts of different colors, and they spill out onto the grass. And there is a straw man sitting in a chair. The whole thing is red and orange and green, and really, pretty cool.
I like fall. So far as I can tell, Thanksgiving is really Fall Day, celebrating Fall things, so I take the nest as a sign that it really is celebrated here, but people just don't know it.
So, Happy Thanksgiving!
