I would like to write a story about a boy with straw-like hair and his cow who are passing through my campus, and how nobody notices them. The boy has a thing for mochas, and the cow has a thing for well-manicured grass. There's a lot of burnt beige grass in the hills around here, but if the boy takes his cow there, it just kind of picks at the grass a bit, then turns its head away. So here they are on campus, because there are coffee shops and yummy lawns.
But you can't have a story where all that happens is a boy drinks coffee and a cow grazes. Maybe the boy will start going to classes. At first, he notices all the Asian tourists looking into classroom windows and taking pictures of what's inside. So he goes to take a look for himself. All he sees are a bunch of kids sitting at tables arranged in a circle, and he doesn't get what's so interesting. So he leaves his cow to graze and goes inside to take a look. And then he just sort of comes back every day, sits on the floor in the middle of the ring of desks, and learns Italian. Nobody sees him, of course.
Meanwhile, maybe his cow is doing something interesting. It must be terribly lonely; no-one sees it and people just subconsciously avoid it if it gets in their way. It can't get even one person to say hello. So it starts causing trouble. There are students laying around the lawn where it's grazing. Some have their homework laid out on the grass. So the cow casually grazes over to the spot where they're working, and nibbles on the page that's just out of the student's reach. Later, the student won't be able to explain why his essay looks chewed up; he'll think it got stuck in his backpack zipper, or maybe he sat on it. Or another time, when there's that massive flow of bikes rushing to class all at once, the cow will ever-so-accidentally step onto the bike lane. The bikes will start swerving all over the place, barely avoiding each other. This isn't really unusual, though. Everyone will think it's just the students who were biking while texting; they never pay attention to what they're doing.
Meanwhile, the boy doesn't like it that the tourists keep taking pictures of inside the classroom. He isn't sure if he will appear on their photos, and he has no intention of finding out. Whenever the tourists appear, he has to hide quickly under a desk. There he vies for room with some kid's feet. It is really irritating. So one day, he stations his cow in front of the windows. The cow looks a bit grumpy that is has to stand on some boring pavement for an hour, but still it stands there patiently. The tourists just kind of go around the cow, and can't peer into the windows anymore.
That's all for now, I think.
