Math Math Math

Yes, actually, I have been doing math while I've been here. Really. In fact, the math I've been doing is a lot like trying to figure out musical chairs. Here, let me explain it to you . . .

. . . or, maybe not. I don't really want to explain why entropy (i.e. chaos) in p-adic diffeomorphisms (ooh! big words!) is like musical chairs.

But that's what I'm doing for this mid-year report I'm writing up. The problem is that I've got this little result, and I'd like to explain it to the people who might read the report. But they aren't math people, so I can't really do it with words like "p-adic diffeomorphism".

Well, ok. It's two in the morning, and I've got a pretty convincing thing written down for what I've been doing.

Now, for where I'll be going next. I'll be studying "differentiable" (in quotes because that's not quite what I mean) maps on the p-adics. And, oh, no, musical chairs doesn't work any more to explain it! Ahhh! And I'm almost out of page space, and it's no good to switch metaphors mid-page.

Ok, maybe I'll give up, and entertain the report-readers with stories of Math in Portuguese, and I Drink Coffee With Math People . . . Is that cheating?
