We went to see the Chinese New Year's parade this weekend. The lions were the best part. There were big lions and little lions, and small children getting lost in lion costumes.
Every group had their own dragon. And each dragon was chasing a sun on a stick. The group from the Stanford Asian Liver Center (or something like that) had a dragon, too. It was chasing a plush microbe on a stick.
There were cops keeping us behind the barricades, away from the parade. And there were kids throwing pop rocks and sparklers onto the ground. Sometimes the loud sparklies landed right near the cops. But it was ok. Everyone had fun.
I finally got to show C- the parade. He didn't go last year. So I made sure to show him the lions. Unfortunately, we didn't see that many marching bands before we ran off to dinner (and to warmth . . . it was chilly.) The funniest bit last year was a band breaking into Lady Gaga's Bad Romance after a ton of Chinese music. But C- got to see the lions and the dragons, so it's ok.
